Weekly News and Notes

Good afternoon,

Thanks to everyone who attended last night's Open House/Meet the Teacher Night. For those who didn't make it, we are sorry we missed you, and hope that you take advantage of the opportunity to connect with teachers throughout the year, certainly as needed.
Some notes:
College Fair Today
Our juniors and seniors enjoyed meeting with more than 70 representatives from post-secondary schools, colleges, and military at today's College Fair. Many thanks to Ms. Robertson and our entire guidance staff for its work in both organizing the day and preparing the students for the event. We hope the students had their questions answered and learned something about a number of schools in the process.
Senior Portraits are due to the yearbook staff by October 1!

Submission Requirements
  • If you had your senior portrait taken by the school photographer, David Silverman Photography, you are all set! If you are submitting a photo taken by anyone else, you are responsible for getting your photo to the yearbook staff.
  • Our preferred format is a high resolution digital photo. Please submit your photo in JPEG format, and send us a copy that is at least 640 x 800 pixels (.8 aspect ratio) in size so that we can print it at good quality. You can email your photo to yearbook2018@uxbridge.k12.ma.us.
  • If you received your photo on a CD or only have prints, you can also submit your photo by bringing the CD or print to the yearbook adviser, Ms. Charpentier. Once yearbook has a copy of your photo, the CD or print will be returned to you.
  • All portrait prints or digital files must be submitted by October 1, 2017. Submissions after this date may not be accepted. If you do not submit a photo to the yearbook staff to use as your senior portrait, we will use your school photo.
Photograph Requirements
  • Head and shoulder portraits, close-ups, and 3/4 length portraits are all acceptable.
  • Plain backgrounds in natural colors are preferred, but outdoor photographs will also be accepted.
  • The layout for the senior pages uses a portrait orientation, not landscape, for photos. If you submit a landscape photo, we will crop it to fit the layout.
  • We will accept color or black and white photos.
  • The yearbook is a school publication; please make sure that your outfit complies with the school dress code.
  • Props are permitted in photos; however, pets and fellow humans are not considered props.
If you have any questions about senior portraits, please contact the yearbook adviser at yearbook2018@uxbridge.k12.ma.us.

Performing Arts
The Performing Arts Department is off to a great start!
There are 64 students in our two performing ensembles and 84 students have expressed an interest in participating in our drama productions.   Auditions for the fall Senior play have been held and the students are excited to be presenting “The Curious Savage” on November 2nd.  Auditions for the One-Act Play Festival will be held September 19th after school.
The Pep Band sounds great with our new freshmen, and will be performing at the home football games this semester on September 16 and 23, and October 21 and 28.
The Uxbridge Friends of Music are raising funds this year to purchase new band uniforms!  Upcoming events include the “Recycle for Music” Day on September 23rd and the annual Mattress Sale on October 1st.  Please come out and support the music students in our community!

Our fall sports season is underway, with our football team hosting St. Peter Marian on Saturday; soccer, golf, field hockey, and cross country have already home contests, so we hope you have many opportunities to cheer on our Spartans.
Have a great weekend,

Michael Rubin, Principal
Uxbridge High School
