Weekly News and Notes

Good afternoon,

A few pieces of information from UHS this week:

MCAS

Earlier today, we met with our Class of 2020 regarding MCAS testing in English, which is scheduled for next Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Students have the balance of the school day to work on the test, and we anticipate they will take their time, manage the test questions, and work toward crafting responses that will support passing scores for this graduation requirement. We have seen the questions get more complex over the past couple of years, and our curricular adjustments have guided students toward meeting these changing expectations.
We trust that students will get a good night's rest in advance of the test, take their time, and complete the test with success!

Some Social Events

We hope you can join us for the Music and Meatballs event at UHS on Tuesday night, starting at 6:00 p.m. Tickets will be sold in advance on a first-come, first-served basis. It is recommended that
you get your order in soon! Tickets are $10.00 for adults and $7.00 for students and senior citizens.
There is a $30.00 limit for immediate family, and toddlers will eat for free. However, each family
member will need a ticket so that we can keep track of the available seats. The menu for the
evening is: Salad, Bread Sticks, Ziti (with or without sauce) and meatballs. Coffee, fruit punch and
water will be available. Desserts will also be served. Tickets can be ordered by filling out the
appropriate area on the attached page and returning it to school with your payment. Tickets can be
sent home with your child, or held for you at the door. Please indicate on the order form the manner
in which you would like your tickets handled. (See the music department or a music student for order information - do not just show up)!

Student-faculty basketball game will be held next Thursday at 7:00 p.m. Sponsored by UHS Class of 2018, admission is free! On the faculty team, Mr. Lyman, Mr. Barbuto, Mr. Catalano, Mr. Barry, Mr. Vondras, Mr. Lui, Mr. Bennett, Mr. McNeil, Mrs. Kaeller, Mr. MacKenzie, Ms. Dzivasen, Ms. Bouchard, and Ms. Gaudet will take the floor in the hopes of scoring the upset!

Finally, our annual Prom Fashion Show is being held on Saturday night at 6:00 in the auditorium. More than 50 students will take the "runway" to dazzle us with some fashions in advance of the prom in May!

Welcome to Uxbridge!

Over the next few weeks, we will be hosting about a dozen students from Germany again, through our partnership with American Homestays. We thank those host families for taking in these students and for the community and students for welcoming them during their time with us. On that note, Mr. Miller, our Spanish substitute for Ms. Moquete, supervised a project with Erin Newhall and Josh Plummer, two of his Spanish II students, to share some information about the community, presented in Spanish, German, and English. Check it out!

Have a great weekend!

Michael Rubin, Principal
Uxbridge High School
