Weekly News and Notes

Good afternoon,

Some updates from UHS this week:

Promenade and Prom

The promenade and junior/senior prom events are next Friday. Promenade begins at 3:45 p.m. sharp, and we hope to depart no later than 4:30 p.m. for the senior prom at Leicester Country Club. The prom ends at 10:00 p.m., after which students will return to UHS via coach.

No individual transportation to or from the prom is permitted. We hope to see many parents and friends as we begin our year-end events this week!

AP Testing

Be reminded that AP testing will begin the week of May 7. All payments for tests have been processed, and dates are scheduled on the school calendar. Students taking an AP test are only required to be in school during the time of the test. If there is a day when they have no test, students are expected to be here.

Student Advisory Council

Congratulations to Nicholas Fernandes and Madeleine Schleinitz on their election to serve as delegates to the State Student Advisory Council for Central Massachusetts; Hannah Smith and Robert Osimo will serve as alternates. The Council helps form recommendations to the state Board of Education on matters that are relevant to students.

End of Year Is Coming!

As we near the end of the year, the potential for students to relax and even take courses for granted. We want to make sure that families and educators keep lines of communication open, and if there are concerns, please let us know before things become too challenging to overcome.

Mark your Calendars

The Spring Concert will be held on Wednesday, May 9 in the UHS auditorium, and we will post a full schedule of senior week events next week, including graduation rehearsal. The senior parade through the other buildings will be on June 1, and typically starts around 10:00 a.m. at the middle school.

Have a great weekend!

Grade 7/8 Parent Coffee

Good morning,

We are in the final stages of planning for the fall of 2018, and we are pleased with many of our developments in terms of scheduling and program development. That said, we know there are probably some questions from families, and we would like to provide a time for parents to ask questions, hear from us on progress, and follow up with any final details that could be outstanding. We will be hosting the grade 8 and 7 students here at UHS on May 7 and 11, around their MCAS schedules.

We will be hosting a Coffee Hour on Wednesday, May 9, from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at UHS, focusing on the entering grade 7 and grade 8. Please join us for the whole time or even some of the time.

If you can’t make it, feel free to make an appointment with high school administration or our counseling office to have your questions answered!

So we can plan on space and refreshments, please RSVP by filling out this short form. If we have a huge response, we may need to add another date, so please be patient with us!

Sincerely yours,

Michael Rubin, Principal

Weekly News and Notes

Greetings,

There are not many updates from UHS this week as we head into the April break.

Transcript Requests

If students need to request a transcript as proof of residence for their road test/driver's license, please sign up in the guidance office and do not wait until the last minute. Please allow for 24 hours to process.

Building Access During Break

While there will be someone in the main office at times this week, and there will be athletic events occurring, please note that the building is, generally, off limits during break and after school hours. We will have some cleaning of floors happening, and that may mean that some corridors are not accessible.

Beyond that, we hope everyone has a relaxing break and that the students and staff recharge their batteries for the final stretch of the school year!

We will be running a "Quarters for a Cause" fundraiser from April 23rd - May 4th.  Students can purchase a mini Rce Krispie treats for 25 cents (cash only).  All proceeds will go towards the Walk for Hunger.

Non-emergency lockdown at UHS

Good morning,

Earlier this morning, we had a non-emergency lockdown at UHS. The lockdown was called due to a medical situation, during which classtime instruction continued and there was little impact to the rest of the day at UHS.

We appreciate everyone's cooperation and understanding. Have a great week!

Weekly News and Notes

Good afternoon,

Happy January, er, April! At some point, we may actually get some spring weather and be able to report on the start of the spring sports season, but, right now, it's been challenging! Hopefully we get things to clear up and dry up soon.

Some updates:

End of Day Pickup

Please avoid lining up at the front of the building. There should be no cars in the faculty/student lot, nor should families be parked/idle in the parking lot in the front of the building. For example, today, because cars were lined up around the corner and up alongside the football field, there was no way for an emergency vehicle to access the building. Please turn at the first driveway, and park either on the driveway at the middle or in the student parking lot if you are picking up at the end of the day.

Senior Exams

Senior exams will coincide with MCAS, the week of May 21. With May 25 a tentative half-day for UHS, the senior exam schedule will conclude on May 24. The full schedule can be viewed here.

Vertical Concert and Art Show

Thanks to everyone who attended the art show and vertical concert on Wednesday evening! We had an amazing show of talent, from the artists, sculptors, painters, drawers, and photographers, not to mention another terrific showcase of our musical program from grade 6 all the way to grade 12. Many thanks to Ms. Struppa, Ms. Munley, Mr. Barros, and Ms. Penza from UHS and Ms. Williams and Mr. Hicks from MMS for their contributions!

Have a great weekend!

Cradles to Crayons

What: Cradles to Crayons is an organization that provides donated clothes to children in need. They make it simple for you to do something kind in your community! So please donate new or gently used children’s clothes today!

When: March 27- April 7

Where: Donation bins are located in Whitin Elementary School, McCloskey Middle School, and Uxbridge High School

Why: Although economy may be improving since the Great Recession, millions of Americans are still struggling to get by due to underemployment, stagnant wages, and higher cost of living.  More than 305,000 Massachusetts children, 12 years old and younger, live in low-income or poverty-stricken households. In any given year, more than 100,000 of them will experience homelessness. Cradles to Crayons provides children from birth through age 12, living in homeless or low-income situations, with the essential items they need to thrive – at home, at school and at play. We supply these items free of charge by engaging and connecting communities that have with communities that need.
